This is a study of various narrative discourse features in Godié, a West African Kru language. After a short sketch of the phonology and grammar of the language, the following topics are discussed for Godié narrative:
- order of constituents;
- information management;
- participant reference;
- represented speech;
- spacers;
- pragmatic connectives;
- narrative development.
The 245 page Appendix contains 18 texts counting 2300 clauses. The texts were transcribed from recordings and translated first in French and then in English. All examples quoted in the course of the discussion of the various topics are drawn the Appendix.
